The movie Acrimony has to be one of the most hyped movies from 2018 and to put the cherry on top, it’s a Tyler Perry production and who doesn’t love a Tyler Perry movie. I am not freaked about a new movie release so I didn’t see it initially. I was probably among the last set of people to see this movie and what eventually motivated it was the “social media craze” regarding it. So based on popular demand (by friends of course! lol), I decided to review it…

Firstly, I do not support an idle man, and that was Robert. He worked on a battery for 18 good years and didn’t deem it fit to get a menial job at least to support his wife. He was also a felon and didn’t see it as an important information to tell Melinda before getting married. It makes me wonder, so what if he eventually got the job, does it mean he would have kept that information hidden?

Secondly, there is no doubt that Melinda had anger issues but I also believe her anger was nurtured over the years. Is it from the fact that Robert was just bent on a battery for years, to giving up her life (money, school, house) for him, to eventually seeing the same woman that he cheated on her with. I mean, those are valid reasons to be angry.

More so, I feel the decision to divorce was based on the “moment”. Though Robert begged and didn’t want a divorce and her sisters played a part as well, but Robert gave up too easily. It was not just about giving Melinda money and buying the house back; this was a woman who was patient for years and then who eventually let raging emotions get in the way one time, which can happen to anybody. Robert should have waited and resolved the situation, but hey…if they resolved then “Acrimony” wouldn’t be the movie title.

A thumb-down to this movie is that mental illness was ignored. I feel Tyler Perry would have taken advantage using Taraji’s character to create an awareness about mental illness. Perhaps! that would have been a positive edge to the movie.

I know the “craze” of this movie has been tiring for some lol, judging from the debates surrounding it. Although, I will like to know what you think in the comment section
