So this post is meant to have gone up since I saw this King of Boys movie two weeks ago, but my health got in the way.
So, here’s a quick review on King of Boys!
Sometimes when you go to see a Nigerian movie, it doesn’t live up to its expectation…but king of boys is worth the hype.
The movie is centered around ‘Eniola Salami’ (Sola Sobawale) basically. A business woman with a promising political career, who was drawn into a power struggle in the underworld which threatened her whole life.
Firstly, I’m in awe of how Kemi Adetiba chose the actors for this movie.
Did they actually audition for the roles? or she used her foresight to select them. If so, then thumbs up to her. She really saw the future lol.
To get right at it, I was amazed at Reminisce and Ill Bliss’s performances. They both acted like Pros! I’ve seen some musicians act, and you can tell that it’s not their specialization. But I was really impressed with both of them.
For an acting debut…they were wonderful. Hoping to see more of them in movies.
Sola Sobowale: this woman can ACT!!!, and this movie was a spectacular comeback. She gave a top-notch performance!
Ayy! I could feel every scene from my seat; the way she talked, body movements, everything!!! She was truly a KING!
If she doesn’t win major awards next year in Africa…hmm…let me reserve my comments.
Toni Tones: as ‘Eniola Salami’ junior. She interpreted it extremely well. I saw her in a different light, since I started watching her movies. The sync with the older version of Eniola, from the voice, body movements…I was speechless!
She truly deserves some accolades and I hope she’s well recognised for her work in this movie.
Adesua Etomi: is a sweetheart. I loved the tough ‘Kemi Salami’. I can’t even fault anything. Asides her acting, her wardrobe for this movie was life!! Lol…please if you read this, I need those outfits (winks).
Generally, all the actors did an amazing job in their various roles. I like the fact that Kemi Adetiba made the movie a “Wazobia” theme. I loved the soundtrack, the visuals…Great!
She’s not called Bruce Lee for nothing.
Strong characters actually died in the movie. Quite unusual for a Nigerian movie.
The end… blew my mind, didn’t see it coming lol…KOB was unpredictable, and I liked that.
Although, I know the movie is long (approximately 3hours). I also was in doubt. Infact my friend who I went to see the movie with, was like “3hours movie! Hmm…okay” LOL! But we enjoyed it.
I can’t think of a major fault in this movie…and that’s a good thing.
Unarguably one of the best Nigerian movies to come out this year.
King of Boys is worth the hype, worth your time and worth your money!
I urge you to see the movie if you haven’t. If you have, let me know what you think.
Till next time!
